A web product is a product or service that’s delivered or accessed over the internet. A web product is often a software application that’s hosted on a server and accessed via a web browser. Web products are typically user or subscription-based and can offer a wide range of functionality including productivity tools, assessments and even interactive games. Web products are usually designed to be used by a specific group of people and may require a login or other form of authentication to access.

You may have paper-based or back-office systems that should “go digital”, but it may be hard to see how, or to know where to start in the process. Some examples of back-office systems that we have converted to web-based services include:

Managing contact and sending automatic notifications via a website platform ensures that you never lose data and reduces the possibility of error.

    Save Time

    One of our clients wanted to evaluate thousands of applications for a new fund in a short window of time, short-listing the most eligible applications for detailed assessment. To do this manually (whether on paper or webform) would have taken many thousands of staff hours. We built an automated evaluation system, with a detailed self-assessment questionnaire. This enabled the fund to be distributed very quickly without hiring and training dozens of short-term staff.

    Scale and Adapt

    By automatically determining eligibility and allowing applications to be made, and even partially evaluated automatically, you allow your processes to scale up while still making sure everyone is assessed fairly. Processes that rely on paper and people are naturally harder to change, while website-based processes can more easily be kept up to date with changing technology, new ways of delivering information, and new legal requirements.

    Mitigate Staff Loss

    Sometimes, a single key member of staff who has been running a small foundation for many years may be so crucial to communications and processes that it’s hard to imagine it functioning without them. The more processes and communications can be placed online, recorded and automated, the more it becomes possible for others to take up some of the slack. The need for personal communication can never be removed, but this makes it easier for administrators or even temporary staff to help to run things.

    Increase Awareness

    If you’re doing good things, you may want people to know more about them. You might want to post stories and case studies about your work, or you might just want to make it easier for people to find out about you and your services. Even if it’s as simple as having a recognisable brand on your website and publicity materials, these days it’s important to have a presence online, and to have a simple and memorable message.
